Uriarte Talavera, the Puebla workshop founded in 1824 whose artisans make Cisco Jiménez's Talavera demons, says on its page for him that the series comes from a contemplation, in nature, of the primitive, wild side of human beings, which “no necesariamente implica maldad” (does not necessarily imply evil).

The page sets the demons beside Coatlicue, the Aztec deity of the earth and the universe, and beside present-day images of evil and destruction such as Godzilla, King Kong and the chupacabras, and says the Talavera demons complement “esta imaginería de lo salvaje y lo irracional en la vida cotidiana” (this imagery of the wild and the irrational in everyday life).
