Vivario Doméstico II: contemplar la vida

Michelle Galaviz (1994–)

2024

Óleo sobre tela · 100 × 80 cm

This is the second painting in Michelle Galaviz's series Vivario Doméstico (Domestic Vivarium). Introducing the first one on Instagram in December 2024, she quoted a definition of the vivarium: a closed space for keeping and raising animals or plants for research or observation, in which their natural environment is imitated.

Factible: fábrica de creación (Factible: Creation Factory), which presented her solo exhibition Vivario Doméstico: contemplar la vida (Domestic Vivarium: Contemplating Life) at Galería Origen in Mexico City, opening in January 2025, wrote that in it the artist invites us to reflect on intimacy and on our connection with what surrounds us in our own spaces.

In 2025 the painting was in Rituales mínimos: seis miradas duranguenses sobre lo cotidiano (Minimal Rituals: Six Durango Views of Everyday Life), a group show of six artists from Durango at Galería Enrique Guerrero in Mexico City. Its exhibition text, signed by Ramona Rocha, one of the six, says that Galaviz "convierte su hogar en un espacio simbólico" (turns her home into a symbolic space). Rocha's Oxxo en reparación (OXXO Under Repair) hung in the same show.
