Talavera

Alex Dorfsman's Talavera televisions began with El cinco de mayo de 1862: Uriarte Talavera contemporánea (May 5, 1862: Contemporary Uriarte Talavera), a group exhibition marking the 150th anniversary of the victory over the French invasion at Puebla, for which artists made work with the artisans of Uriarte Talavera, the Puebla workshop founded in 1824.

La Jornada's report on the exhibition says he brought the workshop a small old television monitor, from which a mold and replicas were made, and on the screens of that series he drew scenes and landscapes of Puebla. The exhibition's curator, the art critic and researcher Sylvia Navarrete, told La Jornada that the artists could interpret the theme of May 5 “de manera literal, metafórica o a partir del concepto estético o ideológico de la época” (literally, metaphorically, or through the aesthetic or ideological ideas of the period).
